about

The band experienced a short hiatus following ‘Dust Bug Cecil’ and ‘Let Me Eat The Flowers’ (and the aborted albums ‘Primogen’, and ‘Maldoror’*). During this time, something was obviously festering as in 2004, the band knocked out several feverish compositions in one long burst of creativity. There was the EP ‘Revolution 666’ (which incorporated mutilated Beatles samples and Koranic chants), the abstract noise album ‘Music For Strangers’ which, instead of being put up for sale was distributed by copies being randomly left in public places. There was also ‘Blood Music’, which manages to marry psychedelic song elements with industrial and avant-garde experimentalism. Bass heavy and repetitive it might be, but snatches of off kilter melodies and weird fragmented lyrics weave around the rhythms in such a way that it keeps it from being predictable while lending it a weird claustrophobic atmosphere.
The lyrics were inspired by whatever Dave was reading at the time, (which meant it was probably unhealthy). Syd and Roland contributed using the technique Frank Zappa called ‘xenochrony’ which meant that the backing track they are heard playing against isn’t the one they themselves heard when playing – if they heard one at all.

“Blood Music? Bloody weird music more like…” Somewhere in a galaxy far away the album may be considered pop music. In this galaxy it’s a musical lubricant to slip you into a state of confusion. Like the band in the star wars bar if Dr Leary had spiked the punch."
(Syd Howells)

*Primogen has now been completed and remastered and will be available soon.
Maldoror is in the process of being reworked.
